The "Brew House" (lower left) dates from 1756. In the records this was the "Old Brewery" known to be otherwise named as [Thomas G.] Jaques & Co., later as Jaques and Nell, at least until 1834. In the Ordnance maps of 1847, there is no brewery listed or shown on Meadow Lane, but there are several on Hunslet Lane, and the Tetley Brewery is prominent. The "White Chapel" was a Calvinist Independent Church, which became too small for its congregation and was rebuilt as the Salem Chapel, which still exists. This "White Chapel" became "Salem Place" where Joshua Tetley launched his brewing business in 1822. The scholar is again reminded not to be confused by the presence of Hunlet Road on the Garmin map which extends from the bridge (top of this map) and which today is the main thoroughfare running southeastward.
